Emerald Zoysia
The Cadillac of lawn grasses
Emerald is one of the first zoysia grasses sold on the market. It was first introduced in 1955 by the USDA and the Georgia Agricultural Experiment Station. Its attractive fine leaf texture and color resulted in Emerald being the “Cadillac of lawn grasses.” This zoysia is very drought and cold tolerant. It is slow to spread, but once established with a dense turf, Emerald chokes out weeds and other grasses and is wear resistant to foot traffic. Emerald can be left unmowed as it only grows to a height of 6”-12”. However, if left unmowed, it forms a humpy convoluted surface which is sometimes used in oriental landscapes. Emerald needs 6 hours of sun or filtered light in a day.
